NEWS REPORT: 26 men’s and women’s national teams participate in the final tournament this July in Lloret de Mar. Younger age category event sees 18 teams competing overall
 

Teams confirmed for European Beach Handball Championships 2015

The beach handball spotlight will move to the Spanish coastal town of Lloret de Mar come the end of June and the first week of July.

From 26 to 28 June 2015 Lloret hosts the Younger Age Category European Beach Handball Championships, and following just a day’s break the European Championships for senior national teams take place from 30 June to 5 July.

The European Handball Federation has now confirmed all teams that will take to the court. In the senior national team event there will be 14 women’s teams and 12 men’s team’s competing.

Compared to the European Championship in Randers, Denmark two years ago the two men’s finalists, eventual winners Croatia and Russia, have entered again. Defending women’s champions Hungary and 2013 bronze medallists Norway are also back in the mix.

Montenegro in the women’s event will make their debut, while Germany return to the championship for the first time since 2007.

Notable absences are Denmark’s teams who won silver in the women’s event and bronze in the men’s event two years ago.

In the younger age category championship there are 18 teams, nine men’s and nine women’s, competing.

In 2013 Hungary beat Denmark in the younger age category women’s final. Turkey took bronze by beating Russia.

Hungary also dominated the men’s event two years ago. They beat Turkey in the final. Denmark took bronze with a win against Russia.

The Younger Age Category European Beach Handball Championships will also see a change of regulations coming into effect.

For the first time in-flight goals and penalties will be awarded with three points instead of two. This change does not apply to the European Beach Handball Championships for senior national teams.
