VELUX EHF FINAL4 returns to Cologne

The EHF Executive Committee has awarded the 2012 edition of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 to the LANXESS arena and the City of Cologne at its meeting in Malta on 17/18 June 2011.

Europe's biggest club handball event will return to the city for a third year in a row following hugely successful events in 2010 and 2011.

The EHF Executive Committee agreed that the EHF and EHF Marketing GmbH would now conduct further negotitations with officials from the City of Cologne and the LANXESS arena, as well as local partners, before a final agreement is reached.

Commenting on the return to Cologne, EHF Secretary General, Michael Wiederer, said: “Cologne has earned the right to be considered for a third year. We’ve enjoyed two superb events in the city, thanks in part to the excellent cooperation with our local partners, but also to the many thousands of handball fans, who have created such an unforgettable atmosphere in the LANXESS arena."

The 2011 edition of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 saw a record, sell-out crowd of 19,750 spectators from over 25 countries following the action. All four matches of the final round of the VELUX EHF Champions League were watched by capacity crowds.

The next VELUX EHF FINAL4 will take place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May 2012. Tickets for the event will go on sale in September 2011 via the official website at ehfFINAL4.com.
