The last quarter of 2025 has been a time of reform and changes to the club competitions organised under the umbrella of the European Handball Federation. In the October meeting of the EHF Executive Committee, an expansion to the EHF Champions League Men to 24 teams and new playing systems for the EHFCL and the EHF European League Men were announced.

In its December session last weekend (13 December), the systems for place distribution for both competitions were confirmed. In this interview with eurohandball.com, EHF President Michael Wiederer provides additional background to the decision-making processes and the reasoning behind the steps taken.
