Edel Robyns helps Bocholt win maiden title

Edel Robyns has won the Belgian national title twice before, with Initia Hasselt in 2015 and 2016. Now the left back can share this champions’ feeling with the club she has been playing for since, Achilles Bocholt.

Robyns was the key player for Bocholt on the team’s way to their first domestic title. However, it took a miraculous escape for Bocholt to come out on top in the play-off series against HB Sint-Truiden.

Sint-Truiden won the first match in the best-of-three series 27:20 and the defending champions led the second by eight goals. But somehow Bocholt managed to turn that match around (29:27), forcing an all-decisive third match.

With Robyns in a leading role and scoring nine times, Bocholt steamrolled Sint-Truiden this time and crowned themselves champions after an empathic 35:19 victory.

For Robyns, the celebrations didn’t stop there. The left back was voted Player of the Year, and the award was handed over by her brother Tom Robyns, who was the best player of the Belgian men’s league last season.

“Such an individual award looks good on your CV. It is the reward for working hard and well a whole season long,” said Edel Robyns, who will re-join Hasselt next season, together with her sister and current Hasselt teammate Sam.
