Holstebro and Constanta chase theoretical hope

The last match day of the Men’s EHF Cup Group Phase will be played this weekend, and only one quarter-final spot is still up for grabs. Two teams in Group C, TTH Holstebro and HC Dobrogea Sud Constanta, have a theoretical opportunity to book the ticket, though Holstebro’s chance is stronger than Constanta’s. 

FC Porto Sofarma are already sure to win the group, while Liberbank Cuenca are out of the race.

• With a win, Holstebro may qualify for the quarter-final, provided that the other Danish team in the competition, GOG, lose their last match in Group D

• A win may still give Constanta a chance to reach the quarter-final, provided that GOG lose their last match in Group D and Holstebro do not win against Cuenca – but Constanta’s goal difference ahead of the last round is 11 goals poorer than GOG’s

• Porto are confirmed as group winners and are sure to contest the quarter-finals

• Together with THW Kiel in Group D, Porto are the only team in the group phase with maximum points

• Porto won the first match against Constanta 35:29 in Romania
