Porto and Holstebro strive to maintain top positions

While FC Porto’s football team have not given up hope of reaching the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League, FC Porto Sofarma’s handball squad can take another step towards exactly that stage of the Men’s EHF Cup when they face Romanian side HC Dobrogea Sud Constanta away on Saturday afternoon.

TTH Holstebro also hope to stay undefeated when they travel to Spain to meet Liberbank Cuenca on Sunday at noon.

  • In their first group match, Constanta looked on their way to victory but ended up losing 25:29 away to TTH Holstebro

  • Porto opened their group phase campaign with a 37:26 win at home against Liberbank Constanta

  • Both teams enter the game after victories in their domestic leagues during the week. Porto won 34:22 at home against Belenenses, while Constanta earned a considerably narrower win, 25:24, away against Steaua Bucuresti

  • The match will be the first between the clubs in a European cup competition

  • EHF Cup debutants Cuenca will be trying to rise from the 26:37 away defeat to Porto in their first group phase match

  • A great finish and four goals in a row from right wing Kasper Kildelund earned Holstebro an opening home win, 29:25, against Constanta

  • Both teams boosted their self-confidence with wins during the week. Cuenca took a 22:18 victory away against Morrazo Cangas in the Asobal, while Holstebro defeated last-placed Ringsted 31:22 at home in the Danish league
