Court of Handball suspends Toledo for one match

The Court of Handball has decided to suspend the player Jose Guilherme de Toledo from Orlen Wisla Plock for one match following his direct disqualification received at the 18:37 minute of the last VELUX EHF Champions League match played against Dinamo Bucuresti on 3 November 2018.

The Brazilian right back and the second best scorer (21 goals) of Plock in the current season will miss the important Round 7 duel against Elverum this Saturday.

The court found that by elbowing an opponent in the abdomen while the latter was in the air the player must be further sanctioned. The behaviour is found to reckless, malicious and dangerous for the opponent’s health. It cannot be regarded as a normal defensive foul.

The club argued in substance that the player had no intention to harm his opponent and that the latter allegedly adopted a provocative attitude throughout the match. In this regard, the court found that the intention to harm would be relevant insofar as defining the extent of the sanction to be imposed and that any argument in connection with the opponent’s behaviour is irrelevant since no act of self-justice must be tolerated.

An appeal may be filed within seven days but shall not have any suspensive effect.
