Althaus returns to the Champions League in a new role

The Women's EHF Champions League has a new face: Former world-class line player and three-time Champions League winner Anja Althaus joins the team in the new role as official ambassador.

The campaign aims to increase awareness of women’s handball as a sport, with a special focus on Europe’s top-flight competition, the Women's EHF Champions League.

Anja Althaus, who clinched her third Champions League title with Györi Audi ETO KC last season, will travel across Europe to give a special peek behind the scenes where the magic happens. Accompanied by a mobile reporter, Anja will provide experiences money cannot buy.

How do players prepare for a match? What rituals do fans have before their favourite club plays? What goes through a player's mind in specific situations? All this and more will be covered on the road to Budapest where the best four teams will compete for the coveted trophy on 11/12 May 2019 at Papp László Budapest Sportaréna in Hungary.

And who could know better than a three-time Champions League winner herself? The 36-year-old formerly played for the German national team and won the Champions League twice with Viborg in 2009 and 2010 and once with Győr in 2018. In 2007, Althaus won a bronze medal at the World Championship with the German national team.
