Spain and hosts Argentina capture Youth Olympics glory

Beach handball made history in Argentina last week as 24 teams took part in the sports first appearance at the Youth Olympic Games.

A packed arena in Buenos Aires saw the host nation’s women’s team reach the final with a win over world champions Hungary, then go on to claim gold with a 2:0 victory over Croatia in the final.

Hungary won bronze with a 2:1 win over last year’s European champions Netherlands.

Reigning European and world Under 17 champions Spain added Olympic gold to their incredible collection in Saturday’s men’s final.

The Spaniards needed a 9:6 shootout victory against neighbours Portugal in the final, while Argentina beat Croatia to claim bronze.
