Rombel’s reign in Zaporozhye comes to an end

Following four consecutive losses in the VELUX EHF Champions League, HC Motor Zaporozhye have decided to terminate the contract of head coach Patrick Rombel.

Motor’s first season in Groups A/B of Europe’s elite club competition have not gone to plan and the most recent loss to Flensburg proved to be the Polish coach’s last.

The 35-year-old, in just his second season with the club has seen his side rooted to the bottom of Group B and the only team yet to pick up a point

“The current situation does not match the plans and goals set by the club management to coaching headquarters and the team,” said an official statement by the Ukrainian club.

Club President Olimpiy Pokatov confirmed a new coach would be announced this week, who is likely to take charge for their next Group B clash on Sunday at home to Zagreb.
