Granollers mourn two young players after fatal car crash

The EHF has the sad duty to report the tragic death of two handball players from BM Granollers. Martí Batallé, a member of a junior team, and former player Xavier Pocurull, died in a traffic accident on the Catalan motorway AP-7.

Two other players, Pau Navarro (current) and Óscar Oller (former) were injured in the same accident. While Navarro was in a critical condition and transported to hospital in Barcelona by helicopter, Oller was taken to the Granollers hospital with minor injuries.

BM Granollers, who are regular participants in European club competitions and start in the Men’s EHF Cup Qualification Round 3 in November this season, released a statement:

“The club wants to express its deepest condolences to the players’ families and friends, with whom we share these moments of pain together with the world of handball and sports. Also, all our strength and wishes for the recovery are with Pau Navarro and Óscar Oller. Due to this tragic news, BM Granollers cancels all of its activity today and tomorrow.”

On behalf of the whole European handball family, the EHF would like to express its deepest condolences to the friends, family and teammates of Martí and Xavier at this difficult time.
