Discussions take place at Women's EHF FINAL4 in Budapest as government underlines support for Hungarian federation's joint bid with Slovakia for Men’s EHF EURO in 2022/2024
Hungary awaits EHF EURO bid decision
While the eyes of 12,000 in Budapest’s László Papp Budapest Sports Arena were firmly focusd on Győri Audi ETO KC’s title win this weekend (25/26 May), thoughts also turned to the future and particularly the country’s bid to host the Men’s EHF EURO in 2022 or 2024.
Hungary's joint bid together with Slovakia promises a ‘celebration of handball’ and to be the biggest handball festival ever.
Having visited several other bidding nations for cooperation visits including Spain and Switzerland, the EHF President, Michael Wiederer, took the opportunity to meet with officials from the Hungarian Government including the Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, and President of the Hungarian Handball Federation, Máté Kocsis, during the Women’s EHF FINAL4.
They discussed the joint bid and the Hungarian government underlined their support for the project.
Bidding nations do not have too much longer to wait for a decision, the EHF’s member federations will make their choice at the EHF Congress in Glasgow, Scotland on 19/20 June 2018.
A complete overview of all the nations bidding for the Men’s and Women’s EHF EURO events in 2022 and 2024 can be found on the ‘EHF EURO - Beyond 2020’ website.
