Turkish Handball Federation fined

The Court of Handball has reached a decision following legal proceedings opened against the Turkish Handball Federation due to violations of the host broadcaster minimum requirements within the organisation of the Women’s EHF EURO 2018 qualifier Turkey vs Lithuania, played on 25 March.

In particular, the national federation failed to timely secure a satellite signal (and thus to provide the subsequent parameters) and no TV graphics were displayed during the broadcast, violating the applicable minimum requirements for host broadcasters.

The Court noted that the federation displayed a negligent and disinterested attitude, especially in a context where they had received reminders and been sanctioned for similar violations in the past.

Consequently, based on Articles A.1 and D.1 e) of the EHF List of Penalties, a fine of €12,000 is imposed on a federation, half of which being on a suspended basis of 2 years. In addition, the costs incurred by the EHF to secure the satellite signal shall be reimbursed.

An appeal may be filed within seven days.
