Job vacancy: PR and corporate communications specialist

The EHF is looking to further develop its media and communications expertise in Vienna with the appointment of a PR and corporate communications specialist.

Starting ahead of the 2018/19 season, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to take on this new role within the federation and develop the department’s PR capabilities.

Key tasks and responsibilities will include creating PR campaigns, communications planning, media monitoring and reporting as well as writing media releases and content for both internal and external channels.

Through this new appointment, the EHF is looking to further expand its network of media contacts both within the sport and beyond, and to work proactively to raise the profile of the federation, its competitions and activities through earned media.

The EHF Media and Communications Department works across all business units within the EHF and EHF Marketing GmbH and also across a diverse range of competitions, events and activities. This role also offers the possibility of travel to major events such as the EHF EURO final tournaments and finals of club competitions including the EHF FINAL4 events.

Fluency in English, a flair for writing corporate texts and qualifications/relevant work experience in PR and corporate communications are essential for this position. Additional fluency in German would also be an advantage.

The position is full-time and based out of the EHF Office in Vienna’s 12th district. The successful candidate would be expected to relocate to Vienna.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

Creation, development and implementation of PR and communications campaigns
Writing content in English including media releases, articles, social media posts for owned and external channels
Coordination and scheduling of corporate communications
Coordination/production of corporate publications for print and online
Media monitoring and reporting
Maintaining the media database/developing network of media contacts
Support in the organisation of media events (press conferences, draw events etc.)
Additional tasks and projects as required to support the work of the EHF Media & Communications team

Person specification:

Fluent English (written and spoken) with a flair for writing corporate content in English
Background and related qualifications in public relations, corporate communications and/or journalism
At least two years’ experience working in a PR agency, corporate communications department or similar environment
Experience of working in a marketing/sponsorship/commercial environment
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of the sports industry and a passion for sports
Excellent computer skills (incl. MS Office), experience of CMS and email marketing systems
Self-motivated and with ability to work as part of a multi-national team
Knowledge and understanding of international handball an advantage
Fluency in German (spoken/written) would be an advantage

Working for the EHF

The EHF is a forward-thinking sports federation, based in Vienna’s 12th district, with 50 member federations across Europe. The headquarters has 55 members of staff working in areas including marketing, media rights, digital, event and competition management, education and development. 

The EHF Media and Communications Department is responsible for all external communications, managing online and social media platforms, print and corporate publications and also event media management. The communications team currently comprises five full-time members of staff based in Vienna in addition to a large network of freelancers across Europe.
