DRAW PREVIEW: Six teams will learn their quarter-final opponents on Tuesday
Quarter-final draw to determine three pairings
While SC Magdeburg can comfortably prepare for the Men’s EHF Cup final tournament six other teams have to battle out the three remaining tickets to the Ottostadt Magdeburg EHF Cup Finals on 19/20 May.
The tournament’s hosts SC Magdeburg secured the direct passage to the final event courtesy of their Group A win already in the penultimate round of the group phase and will skip the quarter-final stage.
This Tuesday 3 April at 11:00 hrs the three quarter-final pairing will be determined by a draw hosted by the EHF headquarters in Vienna.
Three other group winners – last season’s runners-up Füchse Berlin from Group B, the defending champions Frisch Auf Göppingen from Group C and Fraikin BM Granollers from Group D will be lined up in Pot 1 of seeded teams, while three best second ranked teams – Saint-Raphael Var Handball, RK Nexe and Chambery Savoie Mont Blanc Handball will be drawn against them from Pot 2.
The worst second ranked team Bjerringbro-Silkeborg pulled the shortest straw and bid farewell to the competition as did the remaining eight teams of the group phase from the third and fourth positions in each group.
There are two important parts of regulations which need to be remembered for the draw. The teams who played in the same group of the group phase cannot meet each other in the quarter-finals and the group winners in Pot 1 will play the second quarter-final leg at home.
The first leg is scheduled for 21 and 22 April and the second leg will follow one week later.
