Györ ease to victory but sweat on Mork injury

Norwegian ace Nora Mork suffered an injury in Györ’s win against NFH this evening which overshadowed the Hungarian side celebrations after a 32:23 win.

The Women’s EHF Champions League title holders are in the middle of a severe injury crisis, with left back Eduarda Amorim and line player Anja Althaus still out for a few more weeks.

  • The Hungarian side are now tied with Rostov on eight points, two behind leaders CSM Bucuresti
  • Mork was stretchered-off in the 47th minute, after scoring her eighth goal
  • Györ will face RK Krim Mercator next week, with NFH hosting FC Midtjylland in an all-Danish clash

Györi Audi ETO KC (HUN) vs NFH – Nykøbing Falster Handballklub (DEN) 32:23 (14:9)

Apart from a six-minute period in which everything went wrong for Györ, the Hungarian champions did everything right against NFH in this Monday evening clash.

Taking a 6:2 early lead was easy thanks to the unstoppable pairing of right back Nora Mørk and playmaker Nycke Groot but their Györ side slowly faltered, allowing the Danish side to come back and tie the game, 8:8 after 20 minutes.

A well-taken time out from Györ coach Ambros Martin woke up his side who then increased their defensive stability and only conceded one goal in the last 10 minutes of the first half. This powered the hosts to a 14:9 lead at half-time, with Norwegian goalkeeper Kari Aalvik Grimsbo instrumental in the defence, making eight saves.

Györ sweat over Mork’s injury

While Györ were cruising to another win, keeping NFH at arm’s length, the Hungarian side suffered a big blow, as Mork suffered a knee injury after scoring a goal in the 47th minute.

The Norwegian stalwart whose eight goals boosted her season tally to 49, was stretchered off the court and her team will be sweating over her availability in the next months.

Her injury did not stop Györ jumping to a nine-goal, 32:23 win over their opponents, who will now focus on their Danish duel against FCM at the end of the week.
