Martin Albertsen named new Switzerland head coach

Switzerland will play their final four EHF EURO 2018 qualifiers under the command of new Danish head coach Martin Albertsen.

The Swiss Handball Federation has announced that the current SG BBM Bietigheim coach will take over the Swiss women's national team from 1 February onwards. The 43-year-old, who succeeds Jesper Holmris, signed a contract until the end of the 2018/19 season.

In the past season Albertsen led Bietigheim to the German national championship and into the Women's EHF Champions League. He also reached the final of the Women's EHF Cup. Previously he had been coaching Danish sides Viborg and Randers as well as HC Leipzig in Germany.

With Viborg he won the EHF Cup in 2004.

Albertsen's first challenge on the bench will the EHF EURO 2018 qualifiers against Ukraine on 21 and 25 March. Switzerland is currently placed last in group 1 after they lost the two opening rounds against Croatia (32:28) and Norway (29:12).
