Court of Handball suspends Pesquiera for two matches

The Court of Handball has decided to impose a two-match suspension and a 1,000 € fine (half on a suspended basis) on the player Ricardo Pesqueira from SL Benfica following his direct disqualification during the second leg match of the EHF Men’s Cup 2017/18 Qualification Round 2: Gwardia Opole (POL) vs. SL Benfica (POR) played on 15 October 2017.

The Panel found in substance the players’ gesture (i.e. hit an opponent in the face with his elbow) violent, malicious and likely to endanger the physical integrity of the opponent which constitutes a serious unsportsmanlike conduct.

An appeal may be filed with the Court of Appeal within 7 days.
