Tender closes for media and marketing rights

Following a two-month process, the EHF and EHF Marketing GmbH have closed the tender for the federation’s audio-visual and marketing rights from 2020 to 2030.

Tender documents were provided to more than 25 qualified companies from 18 September in a process handled by the Munich-based media consultancy firm SN1 Consulting.

Seven offers have now been received for the EHF’s rights, which include club competitions (EHF Champions League, EHF Cup and Challenge Cup)
and also national team competitions (EHF EURO and youth events) as well as beach handball events.

Included in the tender is the proposed revamp of the EHF club competitions, announced in October, with a new format for the EHF Champions League in addition to the creation of a European Handball League (now called EHF Cup). As part of the plans, the third tier of competition, the existing Challenge Cup, would be renamed as the EHF Cup.

All of the bids submitted not only have a financial component but also extensive concepts for the exploitation of the rights over the ten-year period of any agreements.

Media companies and agencies were able to bid on seven audio-visual rights and three marketing rights packages on a modular basis across all clubs and national team competitions.

A detailed analysis of the submitted bids will now take place as a next step in the process.
