RFEBM steps in to ensure beach success

The EHF Beach Handball Champions Cup took place over the weekend 26 to 29 October 2017 in Gran Canaria, Spain.

The fourth edition of the event brought together 24 national beach champions from 15 different countries in Playa del Inglés, and marked the final highlight of the beach handball season.

The event was broadcast live on the Spanish TV channel, Teledeporte, and streamed live around the world on the EHF’s OTT platform, ehfTV.com.

At the last minute, due to unavoidable circumstances and at the request of the EHF, although it had no contractually obligations, the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM) stepped in to take over the organisation of the tournament.

The request was accepted by the Spanish federation to ensure that the event took place, with organisational support provided by the Canary Islands Handball Federation through its President and Vice President of the RFEBM, Mr. Blas Parrilla.

Commenting on event, the EHF President, Michael Wiederer, said: “I would like to thank the Royal Spanish Handball Federation, and particularly the President, Francisco V. Blázquez, for the professional approach and assistance in what was a difficult situation.

“The communication and coordination between the EHF and RFEBM as well as the hard work of staff, officials and volunteers from both federations as well as the local organisers on the Canary Islands ensured that the event was a tremendous success.”

The President of the Spanish Handball Federation, Francisco V. Blázquez, said: “The organisation of an international event in such a short space of time was a huge challenge but thanks to the enthusiasm of local organisers the show went on.

“Amazing images and awesome moments in Gran Canaria will now remain in the minds of all those involved in this edition.”
