An academy for future goalkeepers
35 young handball goalkeepers from Austria and Germany have successfully participated in this year's "Goalie Academy" in St. Pölten, Austria, run by Austrian EHF Master Coach Roman Filz from 28 to 30 July.
"For the first time we welcomed two German coaches, Martin Damm and Michael Braun. We met each other last year at a goalkeeper coaching seminar organised by the German federation," explains Filz..
"This has been the academy's second edition. We are looking forward to continuing this success story. The next academy is likely to take place at the end of July 2018."
Among the coaches for the young goalkeepers were several who ply their trade in the Austrian league, including Wolfi Filzwieser (Fivers Vienna), Flo Deifl, Gregory Musel (both UHK Krems) and Ina Halm (St. Pölten).
The focus of their training sessions was on "hand-eye-coordination", backcourt shots and core stability.
