Nine young referee pairs officiate at European Universities Handball Championship

The European Handball Federation has nominated nine pairs from its Young Referee Programme to officiate the matches at the European Universities Handball Championship which are currently underway in Antequera, Spain.

Following a day of preparation which included a theoretical overview on what the EHF on the one hand, but also team coaches on the other expect from referees as well as shuttle run test and a ‘rules refresher’, the referees have been whistling matches since Monday.

With EHF Referee Lecturers Jiri Konecny and Tomo Vodopivec as well as EHF Coaching Lecturer Carlos Garcia and Marcos Bestilleiro from the EHF Office, there is a strong team on site to examine and assess the performances of the referees and to guide them through the event.

Every day starts with the analysis of the previous day’s matches. The referees will stay in Antequera until the weekend, with the championship’s finals being played on Saturday.

The following pairs are currently in Spain

  • Jose A. Macias / Ernesto Ruiz (Spain)
  • Cristina M. Marin / Corina F. Radut (Romania)
  •  Rafik Heddid / Morgan Picot (France)
  • Evgeniya Gombalevskaya / Anastasia Zavialova (Russia)
  • Sabien Weber / Denis Weinquin (Luxembourg)
  • Zan Puksic / Miha Satler (Slovenia)
  • Sergio Abalo / Philippe Maurer (Switzerland)
  • Fernando Costa / Diogo Teixeira (Portugal)
  • Michaela Blomgren / Anna Palmqvist (Sweden)
