Perfect start for defending champions at EHF Champions Cup

The men's and women's defending champions at the EHF Beach Handball Champions Cup have proven that they are once again in top form as the event kicked off on Gran Canaria on Thursday.

2014 and 2015 men's event winners "Ekaterinodar" Krasnodar started their campaign with wins again Swiss side BHC 1898 (2:1) and TSHV Camelot HS1 (2:0) from the Netherlands.

Women's defending champions Multichem Szentendrei from Hungary also had no time to waste. They beat Cannabis Energy Drink - Kanonierky from Slovakia (2:0) and the E.F.E. Os Tigres from Portugal also 2:0.

Together with these two squads, there are another two men's side and three women's teams that have also remained unbeaten on the EHF Champions Cup's first day.

In the men's event, Spanish side Club BM Playa Ciudad de Malaga have won both of their matches in Group A in which they lead together with "Ekaterinodar". Group B is topped by Croatian powerhouse and multiple ebt Finals winners Detono Zagreb who are the only team in Group B not to have lost at least one game.

In the women's event, Deporte y Empresa Clinicas Rincon have joined Multichem Szentendrei at the top of Group A after also recording two wins in two matches. Group B is jointly led by BHC Dubrava from Croatia and Club Balonmano Getasur from from Spain.

The preliminary round continues on Friday with two more games for each team before the final group matches and the quarter-finals are played on Saturday. The first four teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals.

The semi-finals and the final are played on Sunday.

Over the four days of the tournament, the EHF offers all beach handball fans plenty of opportunities to follow the event.

All matches of Court 1 and Court 2 will be streamed live on the ehfTV Youtube channel. This coverage will be supplemented by a number of highlight and best of-clips from the event which will also be available on Youtube as well as on the beach handball Facebook page.

All matches can be followed with the dedicated beach handball ticker and the respective statistics are available for all men's and all women's teams on the respective event pages.
