Teaching handball to young children

When it comes to teaching young children between the age of 6 and 10 the sport of handball, what should be laid is the foundation for the love of the sport and not for a competitive lifestyle straight away.

This is the main message of "The education of handball in little pupillage - a methodoligica handbook for the education of 6 to 10-year-old children" published by Hungarian coach Gyula Zsiga.

Zsiga first started training children when he was just 25 and now already looks back at 25 years of coaching.

"The trainers need to train and educate smart and mature handball players. We shall not teach drills and a sort of handball which labels the children. We need to show such general basic moves to our players that help them to prevail anywhere, anytime," says Zsiga.

"According to my expectations this book will be an easily usable traveling companion for everybody who feels a professional calling for bringing up appropriately our rising handball generation.

"With this goal in mind, I hope that more and more people will consider this programme to be helpful and will study it throughout their work. I wish a successful training and a great deal of joy to all the readers."
