Faroe Islands receive first right to organise qualification tournament en route to Men's EHF EURO 2020

The Faroe Islands have received the first right to host the qualification tournament for Group A in the first qualification phase en route to the Men's EHF EURO 2020.

The three teams in this group, Faroe Islands, Greece and Cyprus, had agreed to play in a tournament format instead of home and away matches, and the draw to determine the right to organise the tournament took place on Tuesday in the EHF Office.

The second right went to Greece, the third to Cyprus. The tournament will take place from 13 to 15 January 2017.

Groups B and C will decide their respective winners in home and away matches. Turkey, Estonia and Kosovo face each other in Group B; Italy, Luxembourg and Estonia play in Group C.

The playing periods are 2 to 6 November 2016, 4 to 8 January 2017 and 11 to 15 January 2017. The winners of each group will qualify for the second phase, the main EHF EURO 2020 Qualification.

The second possibility to qualify for the main EHF EURO 2020 Qualification is the European IHF Trophy which will be played in June 2017. The six teams that do not qualify from the first phase will join this tournament.

Registered already for the trophy event are Albania (to be confirmed), Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Ireland, Moldova and Malta.

The Men's EHF EURO 2020 will be played in Sweden, Austria and Norway in January 2020.
