Double medal chances for Portugal and Spain at Nazaré 2016

Portugal have a bold dream and that is winning three-time EURO gold on just one day. While the nation's football team play the UEFA EURO final on Sunday night in Paris, the women's as well men's under 16 beach handball team are also close to the medal ranks as they reached the semi-finals at Nazaré 2016 on Saturday.

The second nation to still have two teams left in the event is Spain, making the two countries from the Iberian peninsula the dominating forces at the Under 16 Beach Handball EURO in Nazaré.

In the men's event Portugal faced Switzerland in the quarter-final and eased past them with a convincing 2:0 win; Spain followed suit, beating Germany also 2:0.

Russia needed the shoot-out to get rid of Greece, 2:1, while Italy beat Poland 2:0. In the semi-finals at 10:00 hrs local time Portugal face Italy and Russia play against Spain.

In the women's event Portugal as well as Spain needed the shoot-out to win their respective games. Portugal had lost the first set to Hungary 23:16, but then won the second 20:18 and the shoot-out 6:4.

Spain had taken the first set 10:5 against Germany, lost the second 15:11, but then won the shoot-out 7:4. Norway (against Croatia) and the Netherlands (against Italy) recorded 2:0 wins each to reach the semis.

On Sunday at 10:00 hrs local time Norway face Netherlands and Portugal play against Spain.

The finals will take place at 16:00 hrs local time in the women's event and at 17:00 hrs local time in the men's event.
