Despite some sudden rain, thousands of fans celebrated teams, players and themselves
Opening party sets the tone for VELUX EHF FINAL4 2016
The VELUX EHF FINAL4 2016 made a spectacular entry to Cologne on Friday night, and when the weather changed from nice to not so nice anymore just before the teams were about to enter the stage, the fans just took the party indoors and continued celebrating.
“This two-day tournament is something really special. I wish I could have been a part of it when I was a player,” said former Danish international Lars Christiansen. The 44-year-old has been part of the EHF FINAL4 for several years as an ambassador for title sponsor VELUX, but never reached it as a player.
“I'm here for the second time and I really hope that this time we are going to win,” said MVM Veszprém fan Peter. For Kielce supporter Michal there is no doubt about the status of the VELUX EHF FINAL4: “You have to be here once in your life,” he said. And Jürgen, who travelled to Cologne from Heidenheim in south-west Germany, said about the days to come: “Handball enthusiasts from four different countries come together cheerfully to enjoy a magnificent weekend with thrilling matches.”
And so it was like it should have been. While it was literally raining cats and dogs outside, the fans' mood was not dampened at all as they set the tone for the thrilling games and great atmosphere the LANXESS arena witnessed today.
