Gran Canaria lift first trophy in history

Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE celebrate their first European title this weekend after two four goal wins against Turkish Kastamonu B. Genclik SK.
A 33:29 at home in the second leg made it all clear for the Spanish side.

To both teams, it would have been the first time they could lift a European trophy in case of an over-all win in the final.

As it turned out, Rocasa Gran Canaria came out as winners, and the Spanish team were already favourites after the first leg in Turkey, which they won 29:25 after leading all the way.

And Rocasa left no doubt in the second leg in the Telde Insular Rita Hernandez in Gran Canaria.

In front of 2,350 enthusiastic spectators, Rocasa were leading 16:11 already at half time, and any doubt there might have been about the final outcome was eliminated at this point.

Kastamonu won the second half by one goal, then, but this did not keep Rocasa from taking an eight goal win on aggregate.

Just like in the first match, Rocasa playmaker Maria Lujan Suarez became a deciding figure.

After scoring eight goals in Istanbul last weekend, she scored 10 goals this time, which was enough to make her most scoring player of the match.

Right wing Melania Falcon Gonzalez came close with nine goals, while Kastamonu had their most scoring player in line player Ceren Demircelen who scored eight times.
