Hans Vestberg elected chairman of Swedish Olympic Committee

The President of the Swedish Handball Federation, who is also President and CEO of Ericsson, the global communications technology company, has been elected to the chairman's position of the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK).

The Swedish Olympic Committee’s gain is however handball’s loss as Vestberg plans to step down from his role within the Swedish Handball Federation, a position he has held for the past eight years.

Speaking following his appointment Vestberg said: “It's been eight great years in the handball family and I will of course continue to follow the sport, go to matches, track the performance of the national teams, and maybe even play myself.

“Unfortunately my new assignment for SOK means that I will resign as president of the Swedish Handball Federation. Handball and my role in the Swedish Handball Federation have brought incredible joy to my life.”

Vestberg (pictured left) will replace Stefan Lindberg (pictured right), who has been chairman of the Swedish Olympic Committee for 16 years.
