One game suspension for Bircan and Dompris

The EHF Court of Handball has rendered two disciplinary decisions as regards to two last minute red card cases.

The first decision relates to the direct disqualification of the player Ibrahim Bircan from the club B.B Ankara Spor within the last seconds of the second leg match of the EHF Men’s Challenge Cup Last 16 2015/16: B.B Ankara Spor (TUR) vs. St. Petersburg (RUS), which took place on 21 February 2016.

When the opposing wing player jumped from the six-meter line to take a clear chance to score, Ibrahim Bircan hit him in the stomach.

The Court of Handball finds in substance that such behaviour meets the characteristics of a serious unsportsmanlike conduct, the foul was intentional and not a normal one taking place within the course of a defensive action. One match suspension and a fine of €500 is therefore imposed on the player.

The second decision relates to the direct disqualification of the player Charlampos Dompris from the Greek club AO Poseidon Loutrakiou. Within the very last seconds of the second leg match of the Men’s Challenge Cup Last 16 2015/16: KV Sasja HC (BEL) vs. AO Poseidon Loutrakiou (GRE), which took place on 20 February 2016, the player did not release the ball and threw it away.

The Court of Handball finds the violation unsportsmanlike as it was intentional and committed solely with the intention to annihilate any offensive action in favour of the opponents to protect the score during a decisive and crucial moment. Thus, a suspension of one game is imposed on the player.

Appeals may be filed within 7 days with the EHF Court of Appeal.
