Court of Handball fines Wiegert

The EHF Court of Handball has released a decision following disciplinary procedure opened against the coach of SC Magdeburg, Bennet Wiegert.

The latter was directly disqualified at the end of the fifth round match of the 2015/16 Men’s EHF Cup: Aalborg Handball (DEN) vs. SC Magdeburg (GER) which took place on 19 March 2016.

Following a timeout request made by the coach, a misunderstanding with the officials at the judges’ table took place. The situation escalated and the coach lost his temper, especially by displaying an offensive and vindictive behaviour both verbally and physically (e.g. by hitting the judges’ table with his hand).

The Court considers the overall behaviour as an improper and disrespectful conduct violating the principles of fair play and sportsmanlike. Hence, a fine of 500 € is imposed on the coach.

An appeal may be filed within seven days with the EHF Court of Appeal.
