Two out of four semi-finalists named

Two of the semi-finalists in the Women’s Challenge Cup are already known, Turkish Kastamonu and Spanish Rocasa Gran Canaria are through after winning double headers this weekend.

Kastamonu B. Genclik SK had to go through two relatively close matches against Virto/Quintus, before they won the double header against the Dutch team and clinched their semi-final berth.

After a narrow 14:13 lead at half-time, the Turkish home team won the first leg 27:23.

After that win, a 25:23 victory in the second match was obviously more than enough for Kastamonu to qualify for the semi-final.

Rocasa Gran Canaria had considerably less trouble in their double header at home against ZRK IZVOR BUKOVICKA BANJA-Arandjelovac.

The Serbian team was defeated 35:25 in the first match in Gran Canaria, and the following day, the Spanish home team won almost as clearly, as the game ended 27:19 this time.

11 goals from centre back Joanna Waga played a big part, as EKS Start Elblag gave themselves a good chance to qualify for the semi-finals through a 29:25 win at home against Turkish Izmir BSB SK.

From the half-time score 12:12, the Polish hosts managed to create a four-goal lead ahead of their visit to Izmir next weekend.

HC Vardar junior from Macedonia and Ukrainian HC Karpaty are waiting until Monday evening to play the first leg in Skopje.
