Latvia's Aivis Jurdzs banned for one match

The EHF Court of Handball has published a decision following disciplinary proceedings opened due to the direct disqualification received by Aivis Jurdzs in the last minute (59:51) of the Men’s World Championship 2017 qualifier Greece vs. Latvia which took place on 13 January 2016.

The player was directly disqualified for holding his opponent while the latter was executing a free-throw granted to his team during the course of a defensive action.

The EHF Court of Handball finds in substance that the foul was intentional, aggressive and committed solely with the intention to annihilate any chance to score in favour of the opposing team in a crucial and decisive moment of the match.

Hence, Aivis Jurdzs is therefore not entitled to participate in the Men’s World Championship 2017 qualifier Latvia vs. Ukraine taking place on 17 January 2016.

An appeal may be filed with the EHF Court of Appeal within 7 days but shall not have any suspensive effect according to the aforementioned decision.
