Kastamonu reach quarter-final

The Women’s Challenge Cup continued this weekend with Kastamonu B. Genclik SK’s Serpil Iskenderoglu in particular on fire. With no less than 24 goals in the double-header against Poland’s Metraco Zaglebie Lubin, the 33-year-old centre back played a major part as Kastamonu qualified for the quarter-finals with an aggregate 10-goal win.

Iskenderoglu scored 13 goals when Kastamonu won the first match at home 43:39. The Turkish side also had the home advantage in the second game, which Kastamonu won 30:24, this time with 11 goals from Iskenderoglu.

Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE are virtually in the quarter-final after a win of no less than 38:23 in Kosovo against KHF Shqipona. Line player Almudena Rodriguez scored 11 goals for Gran Canaria, though the home team had a weapon of their own with centre back Belma Beba scored the same number.

DHC Sokol Poruba have a good chance of reaching the quarter-final as well, after they won the first leg 28:22 at home against Izmir BSB SK. A relatively even first half ended in a two-goal lead for the Czech hosts with a score of 14:12, and in the second half, the home team increased their lead to a score line that may prove difficult for Izmir to overcome in the return match in Turkey on Saturday.
