Zorman out for visit to Vardar

The EHF Court of Handball has ruled upon disciplinary proceedings opened following the direct red card received by Uros Zorman during the last minute (59:56) of the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase match (Round 5): KS Vive Tauron Kielce (POL) vs FC Barcelona Lassa (ESP) which took place on 17 October 2015.

Following a ball turned over by his team, the player intentionally fouled his opponent while the latter was about to initiate a counter attack.

The EHF Court of Handball stresses that the player intentionally committed the foul in order to prevent a counter attack to be initiated in a crucial and decisive moment of the m atch, since at the time of the foul there was a one (1) goal difference in favour of the club and a clear opportunity to obtain a last possibility to take a shot on goal.

Furthermore, and contrary to the club’s arguments, the Court finds that the foul is not a normal defensive foul since the Player aggressively grabbed his opponent’s shirt, held him and dragged him until both of them fell to the floor. Such an aggressive attitude clearly demonstrates the willingness to prevent any further action in order to maintain the score in favour of the club.

The player is therefore suspended for one match and is thus not entitled to play the 2015/2016 VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase match (Round 6): HC Vardar (MKD) vs KS Vive Tauron Kielce (POL) taking place on 24 October 2015.

An appeal may be filed with the EHF Court of Appeal within 7 days but shall not have any suspensive effect according to the aforementioned decision.
