Guidelines released for Europe’s referees

The EHF’s Technical Refereeing Committee (TRC) has released its guidelines for referees for the new 2015/16 season.

A selection of 122 video clips taken from the Women’s EHF Champions League, Women’s EHF EURO 2014 in Hungary and Croatia and also the Men’s EHF EURO 2014 in Denmark offers referees and national federations a valuable resource.

The focus of the guidelines is on six key areas: pivot play; ‘step‘ mistakes; seven metre penalty decisions; disqualification & 2 minute suspensions; offensive fouls and wing play.

Comments and inputs from the referee experts in the TRC have been added to each of the clips to help referees understand what the correct decision in each case should be.

The guidelines can be accessed via a specially prepared video platform.

The teaching materials have been developed for the EHF’s top referees and for national federations’ own teachning programmes by the University of Las Palmas in close cooperation with the EHF Competence Academy & Network (EHF CAN).

Each clip shows a single punishable action in real time as well as in slow motion. The platform offers the possibility to halt the clip by hitting 'space' and then to continue it frame by frame, using the arrow keys. Pressing 'space' again continues the clip at normal speed.

Members of the EHF’s TRC include: Dragan Nachevski/MKD (Chairman); Mona Förström/FIN; (Female Refereeing); Henrik La Cour Laursen/DEN; Member (Young Referee Programme); Antonio Goulao/POR (Educational Material); Helmut Wille/AUT (Physical Preparation) and Viktor Poladenko/RUS.
