Sweden to face the only non-European team in quarter-finals

The Men's Junior World Championship in Brazil turned out to be almost exclusively an European affair as Egypt became the only non-European team which made it to the quarter-finals.

After the Netherlands and Serbia failed to reach the Last 16 another three teams from Europe were deprived of medal hopes in the tournament's first knockout round as Norway, Portugal and Russia were ousted by France, Sweden and Spain respectively.

Silver medallists at the Men's 20 EHF EURO 2014 from Sweden will face Egypt in the quarter-finals, while Spain take on current youth world champions Denmark, Belarus face Men's 20 EHF EURO 2014 champions Germany and France meet Romania.

European players also dominate the tournament's list of top scorers as they currently occupy the top three positions as the Russian centre back Aleksander Shkurinskiy leads with 51 goals, nine goals ahead of Norwegian August Pedersen and ten ahead of Romanian Nicusor Negru.

All quarter-final matches will be played between 18:00 and 20:30 hrs local time on Wedensday 29 July. A live stream is available via the official website.
