Three clubs from Europe to start at the IHF Super Globe 2015
The reigning Men's EHF Cup winners and recent VELUX EHF Champions League regulars Füchse Berlin were awarded the wild card for the upcoming IHF Super Globe 2015 in Qatar, the organisers of the tournament have announced.
The German club, who claimed their first European trophy last May in Berlin after beating HSV Hamburg, will join the VELUX EHF Champions League winners FC Barcelona Lassa and their final rivals MKB-MVM Veszprem from Hungary.
Barcelona won the last two Super Globe's editions in 2013 and 2014 and underlined a dominance of Spanish clubs in the tournament's history. Ciudad Real/Atletico Madrid claimed the trophy three times (2007, 2010, 2012) and CB Cantabria once (1997). THW Kiel succeeded in 2011 and Al-Sadd triumphed in 2002 as the only non-European club.
All-Sadd will be hosting the event this year. The tournament will take place from 7–10 September 2015 and will be played in a knock-out round this year, starting with the quarter-finals.
The schedule will be as follows:
