A win against Latvia is all what Sweden need

Being two points ahead of Slovenia and even three ahead of Latvia, Sweden are currently topping Group 3 in the EHF EURO 2016 Qualification.

The 2012 Olympic silver medallists these days travel to Dobele where they will face Latvia on Wednesday; a match which can already secure the qualification to Poland 2016 for the Scandinavian side.

A Swedish win will make it all clear for them, while a home win for Latvia would bring new excitement to this group ahead of the last round next weekend on 13 and 14 June.

Compared to their most recent qualification matches when Sweden first beat and then drew against Slovenia at the beginning of May, they will be reinforced by the return of SG Flensburg-Handewitt right back Johan Jakobsson and goalkeeper Andreas Palicka, who returns as well.

"We are close to the (EHF) EURO, but we are not quite there yet, so these matches are obviously very important for us," said Swedish national coach Staffan Olsson, referring to the match against Latvia as well as to the home match against Slovakia on 14 June

The second game will be crucial in case the Swedes stumble at Dobele on Wednesday.

"The (EHF) EURO will be our last chance to reach the qualifiers for the Olympics, and this is obviously also something we are aiming at," said Olsson who is in charge of the Swedish team together with his former teammate in the national team, Ola Lindgren.

In Wednesday’s match left wing Jonas Källman will play his 200th international for Sweden.
