Győr renew entire squad for next year

As the EHF women’s Champions League season is approaching its apex Győr announced huge changes to next year’s squad. The hectic season of the defending champion due to heavy injury crisis made the management realize the importance of a versatile squad.

Four new and one familiar face

Győr announced that Zsuzsanna Tomori (left back, FTC), Éva Kiss (goalkeeper, Fehérvár), Gabriella Tóth (center back, M.óvár), Nycke Groot (center back, Midjtylland) and Yvette Broch (line player, Metz) will join the defending champions’s squad for the next season.

The two dutch players and the Hungarian national team’s goalkeeper had no previous experience with Győr (Tóth plays for Mosonmagyaróvár, Győr’s reserve team) but Zsuzsa Tomori spent three seasons in Győr and led the team to the Women's EHF Champions League final before moving to domestic rivals Ferencváros in 2010.

"We are building a squad that is a true contender in all tournaments but we also have two important things in mind: we are trying to build in players from our youth system and if there’s a chance we try to have Hungarian players at our disposal – said Ernő Kelecsényi, chairman of Győri Audi ETO KC.

Six (plus one) players are leaving

Győr also announced that Orsolya Herr, Ivett Szepesi, Vesna Milanovic Litre, Ágnes Hornyák, Macarena Aguilar and Jelena Grubisic are not part of their future plans. These players will be free agents from the end of the ongoing season.

It is not yet decided whether Anna Sen will stay or not, the management ponder the option and will decide on the Russian left back’s future before the end of the season.
