OFFICIAL STATEMENT: HCM Constanta player George Ionut Buricea will miss the last match of his team in the EHF Cup Group Phase against Holstebro.
Buricea banned for two matches
The EHF Court of Handball has reached a decision following disciplinary proceedings against the player George Ionut Buricea of HCM Constanta.
The player was directly disqualified at the 53”45 minute of the 2014/15 Men’s EHF Cup Group Phase (Round 5): St. Petersburg (RUS) vs. HCM Constanta (ROU) which took place on 16 March 2015. After he was given a two-minute suspension for contesting a referees’ decision, the player kept complaining and kicked the ball which bounced off one of the EHF referees. The player was directly disqualified. Another verbal altercation took place after the match when the player came back to the playing court.
The EHF Court of Handball finds in substance that the verbal and non‐verbal attitude displayed by the Player contravene the principles of fair play and respect to be adopted by participants of EHF competitions as set forth in the Men’s EHF Cup Regulations and thus that that sort of behaviour constitutes a severe unsportsmanlike conduct deserves further sanctions.
Thus, George Ionut Buricea is suspended from the participation in the EHF club competitions for two matches and shall pay a fine of €400 (four hundred Euros).
The player Ionut Buricea shall serve the first match of suspension during the next 2014/15 Men’s EHF Cup Group Phase match in which the HCM Constanta will take part, respectively the Group Phase match HCM Constanta vs. Team Tvis Holstebro taking place on March 22, 2015.
An appeal against the present decision shall not have any suspensive effects.
