St. Petersburg's first win came a bit too late

Through their eight goal win in the Arena St. Petersburg Monday afternoon, St. Petersburg HC got their first win in the group phase, and at the same time did HCM Constanta lose their last theoretical chance to qualify for the quarter-final.

GROUP B

St. Petersburg HC (RUS) vs HCM Constanta (ROU) 35:27 (15:13)

When St. Petersburg finally won in the EHF Cup Group Phase, they did it in style. HCM Constanta were sent home to Romania with an eight-goal defeat after even having been ten goals down a couple of times towards the end.

However, St. Petersburg could not do much with the win which came too late for them to hope for the quarter-final. At the same time, the defeat extinguished Constanta's last theoretical chance of a quarter-final berth.

Constanta had several two-goal leads at the beginning of the match, but at the end of the first half, it was the home team who got two goals ahead. As the second half progressed, St. Petersburg increased their lead continuously, for a great deal thanks to ten goals from right back Taras Dryapochko.

St. Petersburg as well as Constanta are on three points in Group B before the last match day.
