A trophy in the making

Eleven days have passed since Balázs Sipos' and Krisztián Ádám's concept for a new trophy for the winners of the Women's EHF Champions League became the winning one in a competition launched by the European Handball Federation together with the Hungarian Handball Federation and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME).

With the official presentation looming on 14 April when the draw for the Women's EHF FINAL4 takes place, the two artists started working straight away.

MOME photographer Gergő Gosztom had the opportunity to follow the two during their work as the new trophy starts shaping up.

Building the trophy starts with a drawing in the artists' notebook.

Krisztián Ádám shows a meticulous eye for detail as he works on the trophy's top.

The two artists talk about their idea: "We built the concept on the dynamics of the game. This sport, for us, means the tactic, quick passes, jump shots, always changing formations. The movement of the ball determines different pointswhich form the frame of the object."

Krisztián Ádám is working on the tube structure for an original size model of the trophy.

The correct ratio is one the most important aspects as Balázs Sipos measures one part of the tube structure for the original size model.

"The emotional waves occuring during the game, the femininity were also decisive factors in creating our form," say the two artists.

The trophy comes to life as Balázs Sipos puts building foam around the tube structure.

The end of some hard days. The lifesize model stands, covered in foam, on a table waiting for the next steps Balázs Sipos and Krisztián Ádám will take.
