Portugal promotes Andebol 4 Kids

With the aim of increasing the playing of handball amongst young children, the Federacao De Andebol De Portugal has been promoting ‘Andebol 4 Kids’.

The aim of the project is to promote the development of children and their integration into society through the practice of sport, respecting the team spirit, fair play, cooperation and socialisation.

The project started in 2012 and has been growing ever since. In the past two years, 78 major mini handball events have taken place, involving 17,700 children aged 6 - 12 years.

As a result 25 new Clubs emerged in 2014.

The project will continue in 2015, giving the children the opportunity of sharing moments of great fun associated to the practice of handball.

As part of the programme, the Portuguese federation also participated for the fifth consecutive time in the Olympic Week in November 2014, an event organised by the Portuguese Olympic Committee that took place in Coimbra.

The event was aimed at school children, and they got the opportunity to get acquainted with the Olympic world and Olympic sports for the first time.

Handball was a strong presence and the kids had the opportunity to play games, attend handball exhibitions, watch videos and get close to all sorts of handball materials, provided with the help of the European Handball Federation.

More than 700 youngsters got to know the sport for the first time.
