NEWS REPORT: Denmark top the overall ranking ahead of France, who are first in the men's ranking ahead of the Danes. Norway lead the women's ranking ahead of Denmark and Romania
EHF publishes 2014 nations ranking
Denmark are Europe's most successful handball nation in 2014 having accumulated the most points (512) across the year's women's (232) and men's (280) events.
France are ranked second with 500 points, Spain third with 462 points.
In the gender specific rankings EHF EURO 2014 champions France (296 points) top the table in the men's ranking ahead of Denmark (280) and Spain (272).
In the women's ranking EHF EURO 2014 champions Norway (242 points) enjoy a narrow lead over Denmark (232) and Romania (220).
The nations ranking took into consideration all qualifications and final tournaments in 2014. For the men these were the Men's EHF EURO in Denmark, the Men's 18 EHF EURO in Poland and the Men's 20 EHF EURO in Austria.
For the women's ranking the tournaments included were the Women's Youth World Championship in FYR Macedonia, the Junior World Championship in Croatia and the Women's EHF EURO in Hungary and Croatia.
In the men's and the women's ranking France and Norway in particular benefitted from their top podium finishes at the respective EHF EURO events.
Denmark's teams produced very consistent performances across all age levels with, for example, the second place at the Men's EHF EURO, fourth rank finishes at the Men's 18 and the Men's 20 EHF EURO events and bronze medals at both the Women's Youth and the Women's Junior World Championships.
