Katrine Lunde to join Rostov Don

It went public a few days ago that Katrine Lunde is not signing for the optional plus one year of her Györ contract and decided to leave the reigning EHF Champions League winners. It is now comfirmed that the world class goalkeeper, who is currently sidelined due to her pregnancy, will join Russian side Rostov-Don.

Reunion with the former coach

"I have come to the conclusion that the best for me and my career is to move on," Lunde told ehfCL.com after signing a two-year contract.

One of world’s best goalkeepers refused to start saying goodbye to Györ as she refused to rule out that she will feature in the Budapest Women's EHF FINAL4, if Györ make it.

"There is nothing for granted but if everything goes smoothly I might be able to take the court in Budapest. I want to play but this decision will be made by my body, not my heart.”

"Rostov approached me a while ago and made an offer. I considered all possibilites and I can’t deny that my decision was influenced by Rostov’s coach, Jan Leslie, who I know from my time in Denmark. His presence guarantees high quality handball and I am really looking forward to working with him again," added Lunde.

Considering the political and economic situation in the country Russia might not seem a popular destination but Lunde is confident about her move.

"I know the situation, however, I am not afraid at all. If I had doubts I would not have signed for Rostov but moving there with a newborn child is a sign from me that I believe in my new club.”

The father of her child, Nikola Trajkovic will be out of contract in Györ’s football team, which might have affected her decision to move on.

"We are a family and we make decisions together. There were a lot of things we needed to talk through and we decided as one.”
