EHF Cup countdown, part 7: Team Tvis Holstebro (DEN)

On a long journey to the dream destination

Team Tvis Holstebro face some of the longest journeys in the EHF Cup Group Phase, but hope to extend the adventure for as long as possible - emulating their trip to the 2013 finals in Nantes.

Coach Klavs Bruun Jørgensen has bolstered his young squad with the signings of experienced stars Anders Oechsler, and Jonas Larholm, who lifted the EHF Cup with Pick Szeged last season.

The Danes line-up in Group B along with Constanta (ROU), Granollers (ESP) and St. Petersburg (RUS), having recorded three wins and a draw in their qualification matches against Kriens (SUI) and Bacau (ROU).

Bruun Jørgensen would have liked to face a German team in the group phase, but while his wish did not come true, his objectives remain the same.

"There is no doubt that our goal is to go on from the group, and preferably as number one,” he said.

Manager Jacob Jørgensen meanwhile expects a very close group.

“We are going to play against three very good teams, but if we play at our highest level, we will have a fair chance to fulfil our objective, and move on to the quarter-finals,” said Jørgensen.

Team captain Allan Damgaard hopes to relive the success of 2013.

He said: “It’s a tough group, but we will play our best. I think we can use some of our experience from the 2012/13 season. It would be very nice to be a part of EHF Cup Finals again.”

Three questions for coach Klavs Bruun Jørgensen:

eurohandball.com: What are your expectations for the EHF Cup Group Phase - regarding your objectives and your group opponents?

Klavs Bruun Jørgensen: "I think it’s a strong group, with four teams which normally rank at the top of their national leagues. Therefore, it is a group with a lot of winning culture. Anyway, I think we have a fair chance to move on to the quarter-finals. However, there is also a risk to lose the group if we are not ready in every match."

eurohandball.com: What does participation in the EHF Group Phase mean to you and your club?

Klavs Bruun Jørgensen: "I think we can use the group stage to gain more international experience. It is always good for a young team to play against new opponents, and taste the atmosphere of away matches in the European Cup competitions."

eurohandball.com: Which teams are your personal favourites to reach the EHF Cup Finals?

Klavs Bruun Jørgensen: "I’m not sure, there are many good teams. But maybe one or two of the German teams and hopefully us."
