Vandewal suspended and fined

The EHF Court of Handball has released a decision following disciplinary proceedings against the player Loes Vandewal from Schuler Afbouwgroep/DOS (NED).

The player was directly disqualified for having prevented a clear chance to score by pushing her opponent in the back while the latter was jumping to throw from the six-meter line during the last seconds of the 2014/15 Women’s Challenge Cup Round 3 (2nd leg): Union Mios Biganos-Begles (FRA) vs Schuler Afbouwgroep/DOS (NED) which took place in France on 23 November 2014.

The EHF Court of Handball finds in substance that such a foul meets the characteristics of a severe unsportsmanlike conduct deserving further sanction. Indeed, the foul is considered as reckless, likely to seriously endanger the physical integrity of an opponent and intentionally committed to prevent a clear chance to score in order to preserve the score.

Consequently, Loes Vandewal is suspended from the participation in the EHF club competitions for two matches and shall pay a fine of €1,000 (one thousand euro).

An appeal may be filed with the EHF Court of Appeal within 7 days.
