Poland and Romania take last tickets to Group I

Main Round Group I of the Women's EHF EURO 2014 in Debrecen learnt its last two participants on Thursday as Poland and Romania joined the previously qualified teams of Denmark, Norway, Hungary and Spain.

In the last Group A match day in the Audi Arena in Györ Poland eliminated Russia and progressed to the main round after taking a 29:26 win in a very physical match. After a disappointing start to the tournament, Poland put on an incredible performance and executed their last chance to reach the top 12 of the tournament.

The tournament's co-hosts Hungary suffered their first defeat (26:27) at hands of Spain who will take four points to the main round in Debrecen. Hungary will start with 2 points and Poland from scratch.

In Group B, Ukraine closed a five-goal gap against Romania, but could not avoid a 22:23 defeat, which ends their EHF EURO adventure. Romania secured their spot in the Main Round despite almost squandering a five-goal lead.

In the Scandinavian derby between Norway and Denmark a stellar performance by Silje Solberg paved the way for Norwegians to a 26:21 win and to four points for the main round group. Both Denmark and Romania will start with just one point.
