Iceland qualify for Women's World Championship Play-offs

Karen Knutsdottir remains Iceland's outstanding player in the Women's World Championship 2015 Qualification Europe.

After the 24-year-old centre back had already netted 20 times in the two qualifiers against Italy, she added another 14 goals in Iceland's match FYR Macedonia on Wednesday and thus literally became responsible on her own that Iceland took the last point they needed to qualify for the play-offs in June 2015.

By end of play Iceland had taken a convincing 33:23 victory which sees them on top of Group 3 with an unassailable lead and only the second leg against FYR Macedonia left to play.

Iceland is the second team that qualifies for the play-offs, after Czech Republic had achieved the same last week in Group 4.

The qualification tournament in Group 1 started on Wednesday as well with Belarus beating Greece 29:25 and Slovenia beating Switzerland 27:21. The next round of matches throw off on 4 December.

The tournament in Group 2 starts on Thursday (4 December), involving Turkey, Austria, Portugal and Israel. Only the top ranked team from each group qualifies for the play-offs.
